Melasma

Melasma is a common skin condition in which dark grey-brown patches appear on the skin due to sun exposure. The cheeks, nose, forehead, upper lip and chin are most susceptible to melasma formation. These spots gradually appear over time and do not affect any body part other than the surface of the skin. Pre-menopausal women often develop melasma due to hormonal changes.

WHAT CAUSES MELASMA?

Excessive sun exposure causes melasma. Aging, pregnancy and taking birth control pills can enhance the likelihood of developing skin patches. Melasma is 90% more likely to occur in women than in men, and this condition often appears in people with darker complexions.
